On Demand webinar: Supporting people with asthma in the 21st century

This webinar focuses on using the GINA approach to managing asthma and how this can support delivery of best practice asthma care*. PCRS executive chair, Katherine Hickman, is joined by expert speakers Michael Crooks, Nicola Standring-Brown and Benedict Greenwood to discuss this important topic.

The GINA approach to managing asthma provides guidance on identifying the best treatment pathway for asthma patients, who do not require specialist input, by using joint decision-making and giving patients agency. It aims to tackle lung inflammation and SABA over-reliance in promoting the use of dual inhaler systems.

Please join Katherine and her co-speakers in this webinar and covering the following topics:

  • Getting people with asthma on the optimum treatment pathway first time using the GINA approach
  • Assessing severity, risk and needs for support
  • The asthma slide rule and identifying SABA over reliance
  • Joint decision making and treating patients as individuals
  • Environmental impact of inhaler choices
  • Using annual review and follow up process to maintain optimum treatment pathways and patient agency (Personalised Asthma Action Plans, inhaler and adherence checks etc)
  • Considerations for children and young people
  • Patient story: A patients experience of the GINA approach and dual inhaler systems
*This webinar is part of the Supporting People with Asthma in the 21st Century project which focuses on asthma which can be effectively managed in primary care and does not require specialist input. See our resources on Severe and Difficult Asthma for more information in this area.
