NICE Asthma Management Guideline
NICE has published draft guidance on asthma management for public consultation see HERE.
Based on the press release issued by NICE, it appears that much of the content of the draft guideline reinforces and is consistent with the BTS/SIGN guideline on asthma management which was updated in September 2016 (see HERE)
The draft NICE guideline, however, also considers the cost effectiveness of the recommended pharmacological treatment for asthma which results in some discrepancies with BTS/SIGN guideline, for example, with regards to the use Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists (LTRA) as the first add on to regular low dose ICS on the basis of cost.
PCRS-UK will be reviewing the draft guideline in detail and will be consulting with members to inform our response to NICE. In the meantime, you can click HERE to read the draft NICE guideline on asthma management and HERE to read a primary care perspective on the BTS/SIGN guideline and information on the BTS/SIGN asthma guideline summary of diagnostic tests
