The In Conversation webinar series is back and for October we will be joined by Professor Tom Wilkinson, who is the National Respiratory Audit Programme (NRAP) Clinical Lead (among many other things including Professor of Respiratory Medicine at University of Southampton).

The National Respiratory Audit Programme (NRAP) for England and Wales aims to improve the quality of care, services, and clinical outcomes for people with respiratory disease (including Asthma and COPD).

Spanning the entire patient care pathway, NRAP works closely with patients, as well as healthcare professionals, and aspires to set out a vision for services which puts patients' needs first.

It does this by using data to support and train clinicians, empowering people living with respiratory disease, and their carers, and informing national and local policy, with a strong track record of delivery, critical in assessing progress against national priorities.

Tom and Katherine will be discussing NRAP and everything it does - Tom as NRAP Clinical Lead and Katherine as the NRAP Primary Care Clinical Lead.

These informal and interactive sessions are tailored to healthcare professionals who are new to PCRS - you'll have the opportunity to learn more about the work of PCRS and the benefits of becoming a member as well as the chance to connect with other respiratory-interested professionals.

  • Katherine Hickman

    photo of Katherine HickmanKatherine qualified from Leeds University in 2000. She originally did a Medicine Rotation acquiring her MRCP before settling into General Practice. She is a GP Partner in Bradford. Katherine is the Respiratory Lead for West Yorkshire ICB, Primary Care Clinical Lead for the National Respiratory Audit Programme (NRAP), and Chair of PCRS. Outside of work she enjoys cooking, baking, yoga, and outdoor swimming and has recently rediscovered her love for singing and joined a choir.

  • Tom Wilkinson

    photo of Tom WilkinsonProfessor Tom Wilkinson is CSO of my mhealth, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Southampton, and Honorary Consultant at University Hospitals Southampton. He trained at the University of Cambridge and Barts and the London School of Medicine and completed his PhD at UCL studying disease mechanisms driving Infective Exacerbations of COPD. He has 20 years’ experience in health care innovation and health services research and in 2012 co-founded my mhealth with Simon Bourne. He is now a Director and Chief Scientific Officer for the company and leads the digital health research programme.
    Tom’s research seeks to improve outcomes for patients with long-term conditions. He currently leads several large-scale programmes of digital health implementation and appraisal across the NHS. He and his team are developing data-driven models of disease to help patients and clinicians better understand the outcome and to optimise treatment. Working with thought leaders in AI and data science the my mhealth research team is now developing the next generation of digital therapeutics.
    Tom has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and reviews. His work has been recognised by National and International Awards including the European award for Innovation in Respiratory Medicine.
