Biologics are a class of medications that are specifically designed to target and modify specific components of the immune system involved in the inflammatory processes underlying asthma. They are typically reserved for patients with severe asthma that is not well controlled with standard asthma medications.
In this webinar please join Hitasha Rupani to discuss the following topics:
- Introduction to Severe Asthma: Overview of severe asthma, its prevalence, and the challenges it poses for patients and healthcare providers.
- Understanding Asthma Pathophysiology: A brief explanation of the underlying inflammatory mechanisms involved in asthma and how they differ in severe asthma.
- Role of Biologics in Asthma Treatment: Explanation of how biologics work, their mechanisms of action, and why they are suitable for severe asthma.
- Biologics Available for Severe Asthma: Overview of different biologic medications approved for severe asthma, such as omalizumab, mepolizumab, reslizumab, benralizumab, and dupilumab.
- Patient Selection Criteria: Identification of suitable candidates for biologic therapy based on asthma phenotypes, biomarkers, and clinical characteristics.
- Clinical Efficacy: Review of clinical trial data and real-world evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of biologics in reducing asthma exacerbations and improving asthma control.
- Safety and Adverse Events: Discussion of the potential side effects and safety considerations associated with biologic medications.
