Melissa Canavan
After leaving A&E in 2009 Melissa began her career in primary care as a practice nurse. She attended her first PCRS respiratory leaders event in 2013, following this Melissa co- founded Leeds Respiratory Network with a colleague. This led to the development of a new social enterprise called Respiratory Care Solutions (RCS) of which she is now a company director. Melissa is passionate about leadership, education and quality improvement. In 2015 Melissa joined the PCRS Respiratory Leaders Management Team and September 2016 Melissa left her job as a practice nurse. She started back at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust as a respiratory nurse specialist on a 12 month contract. At the end of 2017 RCS obtained a contract with a collaboration of GP’s to standardise respiratory care and reduce variation between 8 GP practices. Melissa now works full time as a Respiratory Nurse Specialist for the social enterprise. She is also lead nurse for Burmantofts, Harehills and Richmondhill Primary Care Network.
